Your First Reiki Session: An Honest Guide From Someone Who's Done Over a Thousand of Them

First things first… I know you’re nervous. Because I was too before I ever met my mentor who gave me my first energy work. There was NO way I was letting anyone mess with my energy. I was a nervous skeptic. And now I’m an eastern practitioner, this is my career. So naturally, I get it. Most of my clients are nervous before their first session. Some are skeptical. A few are downright convinced it won’t work and only came because someone they trusted told them they would benefit from seeing me.

All of that is fine. You don't need to arrive in some perfect zen state. You just need to show up.

Before Your Session

Wear comfortable clothes. Don't eat a massive meal right before. Hydrate. That's really it for preparation.

When you arrive, we'll talk. I want to know what brought you in. What you're dealing with. What your goals are. If there are areas of your body you don't want me near, tell me. If you have a history that's relevant… share what you're comfortable sharing. This conversation matters because it shapes how I approach your session. We will talk about you. How your body, mind, emotions, and spirit feel. That’s it.

I'm not going to ask you to fill out a ten page intake form or recite your childhood trauma. I'm going to ask you what you need and then I'm going to listen. Really listen.

During the Session

You'll lie on a massage table, fully clothed. I normally start at your feet placing my hands on or slightly above different areas of your body. An entire session runs 60 to 90 minutes, but people can really only take energy for about 45 minutes. I schedule plenty of time for us to chill, talk, and recover slowly.

Here's what people commonly feel: warmth, tingling, pulsing, a sensation of heaviness or lightness. Some people see colors. Some people get emotional. Some people fall dead asleep within minutes and don't wake up until I tell them we're done.

And some people feel... nothing dramatic. No fireworks. Just calm. That's valid too. Your nervous system is still responding even when your conscious mind isn't tracking it. I've had clients tell me "I didn't feel much" and then sleep through the night for the first time in months.

What makes my sessions different is the precision. I'm not just running through a standard hand position checklist. I'm reading your energy in real time. I've been clairvoyant since I was a kid… I can see where energy is stuck, depleted, or overactive, and I work those areas specifically. That's not something every practitioner brings to the table.

After the Session

Drink water. Seriously! Lots of water. Your body just moved a bunch of energy around and it needs to flush.

Some people feel incredible immediately…lighter, clearer, more relaxed than they've been in years. Some people feel tired. Some people feel emotional for a day or two as things process. All of this is normal.

I'll check in with you after your session because I actually care about how you're doing. This isn't a revolving door. You're not a number.

How Many Sessions Do I Need?

Some people come in for one session and get exactly what they need… but most people benefit from a series of sessions. Especially if they're dealing with chronic issues, deep trauma, or long-standing anxiety. My suicidal depression took many sessions to break.

I offer packages because the work compounds. Session one starts the process. Sessions two, three, four…that's where real shifts happen. Think of it like physical therapy for your energy body. One visit helps. Consistent work transforms.

Who Is This For?

You. Whether you're dealing with something specific or you're just curious, Reiki meets you where you are. I work with people from every background, every belief system, every walk of life. My practice is queer friendly and trauma-informed. The only requirement is that you're open enough to try.
