What Does Reiki Actually Feel Like? (From 100+ Client Sessions)
I've been seeing auras since I was a kid.
Not in a special way, more like I didn't realize other people weren't seeing the energetic fields around bodies until I was older. So when people ask me what Reiki feels like, I'm answering from two perspectives… what I see happening energetically, and what my clients consistently report feeling.
And here's the thing: it's different for everyone, but there are patterns. Real patterns that have nothing to do with belief and everything to do with your nervous system finally getting permission to regulate.
The Most Common Experience: I Feel Lighter
This is what I hear most. Not lighter like they lost weight. Lighter like they've been carrying something heavy they didn't know was there, and suddenly it's gone.
One client, Kelly, said it perfectly: I feel lighter and more positive. I'm choosing to trust the universe and to continue to manifest what I want.
That shift from carrying to choosing is nervous system regulation in real time.
Physical Sensations People Actually Feel
Let me be straight with you (I’m not): some people feel a lot during a session. Others feel almost nothing. Both are valid, and both mean the work is happening.
Heat or warmth is probably the most common. Codey described it as hot air within him rising like steam away from his body. I see this as stuck energy, trauma, stress, emotional holding, finally moving through and out.
Deep relaxation that feels different than just being calm. Sarah said she left feeling completely restored even though she felt okay going in. This is your parasympathetic nervous system actually activating, maybe for the first time in months.
Emotional release can happen. Sometimes tears. Sometimes laughter. Sometimes just a quiet exhale that feels like you've been holding your breath for years. Your body knows what it needs to let go of. I promise you that.
Physical sensations in specific areas. Tingling, pressure, or a sense of something shifting in places where you hold tension. I'm tracking this energetically, but you're feeling it somatically. And honestly watching this happen never gets old for me.
What I'm Actually Seeing (The Clairvoyant Part)
While you're on the table, I'm not just moving my hands around hoping for the best. I'm reading your energetic field in real time.
I see where energy is stuck. It looks dense or stagnant to me. I see where you're holding grief in your chest, anxiety in your solar plexus, old stories in your throat. I see the blocks before you even mention what you came in for.
And then I watch it shift.
The stuck places start to move. Color returns. Your field expands. Your breath deepens without you trying. This isn't metaphorical. I'm literally watching your energy reorganize itself into coherence. It's like watching a river that's been dammed finally flow again.
This is the part of the work I love most. Being witness to your system remembering how to heal itself.
Distance Reiki: Does It Feel Different?
Short answer: no.
Grace said it beautifully: I was able to feel at ease right away even with it being over a long distance. There was a deep healing.
Energy doesn't care about physical proximity. Your nervous system doesn't know the difference between me being in the room or on a video call. What matters is the container we create together and your body's readiness to heal.
I've done hundreds of distance sessions at this point. The results are identical to in-person work. Sometimes even deeper, because people feel safer in their own space to fully let go.
What If You Don't Feel Anything?
This happens, and it doesn't mean the session didn't work.
Some people are so disconnected from their bodies (hello, chronic stress and trauma) that they're not in tune with subtle sensations yet. That's actually why they need this work. To rebuild that mind-body connection.
Others are just naturally less sensitive to energy. That's fine. I'm still doing the work and you're still getting the benefits even if you can't consciously track it.
You'll know it worked by how you feel the next day. Better sleep. Less reactivity. That knot in your shoulders finally releasing. Feeling like you can breathe fully for the first time in weeks.
The Deeper Truth: It's Not About Feeling, It's About Regulation
Here's what I really want you to understand: Reiki isn't a mystical experience you have to believe in to work. It's a tool for nervous system regulation.
Your body has been stuck in fight-flight-freeze. Reiki creates a safe container for your system to downregulate. That's it. That's the work.
The sensations, the heat, the tears, the lightness, those are just your body's way of communicating that it's finally safe enough to release what it's been holding.
John summed it up simply: My body feels so good today. Thank you.
That's the goal. Not fireworks. Not visions. Just your body feeling good again. Just you remembering what peace feels like.
So What Should You Expect in Your First Session?
Before: Come as you are. Stress, skepticism, curiosity, it all works. I'll create the container. You just show up.
During: You'll lie on a table (or sit on a video call for distance sessions). I'll work on and around your body without invasive touch. You might feel a lot. You might feel nothing. Both are perfect.
After: Some people feel immediately restored. Others feel tired because your body is integrating the work. Either way, drink water and be gentle with yourself for 24 hours.
The real shift: You'll notice in the days after. Less tension. Better sleep. Emotional clarity. Physical pain softening. Your system remembering what regulated actually feels like.
Is Reiki Right For You?
If you're dealing with chronic stress, anxiety that won't quit, physical tension tied to emotional holding, burnout, insomnia, or you just feel stuck, this work can help.
You don't need to believe in energy healing. You just need to be open to feeling better. And honestly, that's all I'm asking.
If you're reading this thinking I don't know if I can feel energy, that's fine. I can. That's my job. Your job is just to show up and let your nervous system do what it's been trying to do all along: regulate, release, and restore.
I'm here to hold space for that. I'm honored to hold space for that.
